My first bite into a Sloppy Joe Burger was when my son watched a cooking video from Donal Skehan and decided to cook it as part of his weekly “doing something meaningful” task in order for him to get video game time credits =) Plus it was served on a brioche bun that was baked by my wife. So it was a love at first bite and since then, whenever I wanted a yummy meal to start the weekend, I would ask for this!
Sloppy joes burgers are delicious and easy to make at home. You can use different type of meats, create your own version of the sauce and sides that goes with it. Instead of pork, how about chicken, beef or lamb and instead of serving on a burger bun, how about serving it in a wrap, on top of salad or even on pasta or your favorite grains. Even with the homemade sloppy joe sauce, you can experiment with different flavors to come up with your own recipe.

Ingredients (good for 3 servings)
300g mince pork (semi fat)
1 large onion
1 tsp grounded Szechuan pepper
1 thumb size ginger finely sliced
1 clover garlic finely sliced
3 brioche bun (wife baked this at home but you can get at any bakery)
Crispy shallots for garnishing
Sloppy Joe Sauce
2 tbsp Oyster or hoisin sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar or balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp Sriracha sauce
120ml water
Coleslaw sauce
2 tbsp low fat yoghurt
1 tsp olive oil
Salt & pepper for seasoning
A dash of Tabasco sauce or Sriracha (optional)
